Vishal’s Independent Run In The RK Nagar By-poll
President of Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council and actor Vishal on Monday files nomination as an Independent candidate for the RK Nagar Assembly by-poll. The following poll is on cards for December 21.
The by-election for the Assembly seat was necessitated after the death of legislator and chief minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016, who represented it for two terms.
Vishal said that he was contesting the polls as he wanted to do good for the people.
“I want to be the people’s representative to do good for them and fulfil all their requests and wishes,” he said after filing his nomination as an independent candidate for RK Nagar Assembly bypoll.
Besides opposition DMK, ruling AIADMK’s E Madhusudhanan and the party’s sidelined leader TTV Dhinakaran are contesting for the prestigious seat.
Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa will be contesting the bypolls as an Independent candidate. Meanwhile Marudhu Ganesh is D.M.K. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s spearhead for the seat.
The election was earlier on April 12 schedule. But unfortunately faced cancellation following vote-for-cash scam.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra (AIADMK) has won seven out of 11 times in the constituency in the last 40 years.
Last year, Vishal bags the general secretary of S.I.A.A. South Indian Artistes Association, an actors’ body, in a bitterly fought election. Later, he was also got his hands on the head of the T.F.P.C. Tamil Film Producers Council and is actively campaigning against piracy, one of the major issues in Tamil cinema.
