Mersal betters Baahubali 2’s record in Tamil Nadu!

Vijay's Mersal is a phenomenal hit! Ever since its release it has been creating milestones the recent one was overtaking Bahubali 2 collection record in TN.

Ever since Mersal started the fireworks in Diwali, there is no stopping it! The response from the fans is phenomenal and especially in Tamil Nadu. The viewers are surely going gaga over Vijay’s triple treat. The perfrect blend flick is the best Diwali gift for kollywood from the makers of of the film. And Vijay has a well deserving applaud to his name. The tickets at the cinemas are still selling like hotcakes breaking records with each passing day!

You read it right Mersal has a new milestone to its name!

Kollywood star Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen starrer recently released film, directed by Atlee, is running successfully at the box office and the film has crushed the record of SS Rajamouli’s historic and war drama Baahubali 2:The Conclusion at Tamil Nadu Box office.

According to the traders report, Mersal has crossed Rs 100 Cr  gross mark in Tamil Nadu alone and occupied the third place after Superstar Rajinikanth’s Enthiran and  Prabhas & Rana Daggubati starrer Baahubali 2.  Vijay’s Mersal  has broken the record of ‘fastest 100 Cr grosser in TamilNadu’ which was created by Baahubali 2. It crossed Rs 100 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu. Surprisingly in just 11 Days whereas Baahubali crossed Rs 100 Cr marks in 17 days. In this manner,  Mersal has crushed the record of Baahubali 2.

According to trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, Mersal  has earned Rs 2.42  Cr in Australia, Rs 4.51 Cr  in the United Kingdom, Rs 4.26 Cr in Malaysia and Rs 16.88 lakh in New Zealand. The next milestone for the film would be to reach the Rs 200  Cr mark at the worldwide box office, a feat that trade pundits are expecting will happen soon.

Mersal features Vijay in a triple role. Upon release, the film faced stiff opposition from Modi-led  (BJP) government which took offense to GST-related dialogues in the film. The controversy surrounding the film became a national issue and it in turn helped the film draw audiences to cinemas. There is no clarity yet on the release date of ‘Adirindhi’, the Telugu version of Mersal.
