Proud author of the ‘Game Of Thrones books’ George RR Martin expressed his amusement by the idea.

“Game of Thrones” is set to make its presence felt in Melbourne after resounding success worldwide. The natives pitched in to name the city’s newest stations after the seven kingdoms of the popular fantasy drama. The new metro stations will be named through a public vote as revealed by the Victorian state government.

The series’ author George R.R. Martin  is “flattered” with the move. “Australia is one of my favorite places in the world, particularly the city of Melbourne… and it would seem the Aussies like me too,” Martin wrote in a blog post.

George R.R. Martin gave a green signal to the idea by quoting. “No, they would not need my permission. Even if they did, I’d give it.”

George R.R. Martin also added that “Highgarden, the Eyrie, Dorne, Westeros”, will be great names. “Winterfell” is a good fit for a train station name except for the fact that winter “never comes” in Australia.

The popular suggestions include Winterfell, Highgarden, King’s Landing, The Eyrie, Braavos and Dragonstone. In addition to “Winterfell”, are the popular choices.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ is a very popular series in Australia as well  and also claims a huge viewership. The Aussie crowd seems delighted in addition to the author who is equally excited for the poll results.
