A tribal village in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district got electricity connection for the first time.
The Jokapatha village’s location is in the mountainous region. The terrain is what deprived the area of power supply since independence. The village is about 400 km north of State capital Raipur. And the poverty-struck Balrampur region has some good news finally.
Expressing happiness over the development, a villager said that the electricity supply would help their children do well in their studies. As darkness was hindering their careers and goals.
“We are very happy now that we finally have electricity in our village. Now our children can study well and progress in life,” claimed the sarpanch of Jokapath village.
The students are almost amidst the excitement and said they did not like the village in darkness. They were also happy that they have electricity now.
The State Government led by Chief Minister Raman Singh has set a target of providing electricity in all the villages by mid-2018 as the State goes to polls later next year.
Chhattisgarh is a power surplus State.
But State’s 44 percent areas are covered by forest. Hence the government finds huge difficulties to take power supply to hilly terrain and heavily-forested pockets.
The chief minister announced the electricity development project for the village following which the authorities ordered to provide the village with surplus power.
